Storywalks - a tool available for you from Fort Vancouver Regional Library
Guest post from Kelsey Hudson, Outreach & Program Coordinator for Youth, Fort Vancouver Regional Library
For years now, the Fort Vancouver Regional Library has enjoyed sharing StoryWalks each summer, offering a unique blend of outdoor fun and literacy for families. But what exactly is a StoryWalk?
A StoryWalk is an innovative way to get people of all ages moving, reading, and talking together outside as they explore a children’s picture book. Pages from a book are transformed into signs that are placed along a trail or walking path, inviting children and families to follow the path and immerse themselves in the story as they walk.
Each StoryWalk title is carefully assembled on 15-18 yard signs, with the pages laminated to help withstand some of the elements. Whether in a park, school grounds, or community space, StoryWalks provide an engaging and educational experience, making them perfect for a variety of locations.
We’ve regularly shared these near our libraries, at community events, and parks, and would love to share them with some of our community partners. If you’re interested in borrowing a StoryWalk for a couple of weeks to bring the joy of reading in nature to your community, email Kelsey Hudson at programsvc@fvrl.org for more information and availability.
