City of Vancouver’s Youth Climate Leadership Program - applicants wanted

Guest post from the City of Vancouver’s communications department

This Fall, 12 high school students will come together for the City’s new Youth Climate Leadership Program. In this program, students will collaborate with peers from across the city, develop sustainable solutions, and gain valuable skills to advocate for a better future. It’s not just about learning—it’s also about doing. The cohort will dive into exciting projects, attend educational field trips, and develop skills to tackle real-world community challenges.

Fall 2024: Join a group of 12 high school students for 10 weeks of in-person gatherings to build your climate resume.

  • Work with other youth to create a local climate project.

  • Explore topics of climate justice and climate resilience.

  • Build skills and community to act on climate solutions.

  • Discover diverse roles and careers in the climate movement.

  • Connect with City leaders.

  • Program is Sept. 24 through Dec. 3, 2024. No programming Thanksgiving week.

  • After school sessions are Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

  • Three half day (3-4 hours) weekend field trips on Saturdays: Sept. 28, Oct. 19, and Nov. 16.

  • Stipends and transportation support.

Students don’t have to be climate experts to successfully apply. The City is looking for youth that are interested and curious about how climate change impacts our communities and the diverse roles we can each play in having a positive impact on our City. Applications are due Sunday, August 4, at 9pm PDT. Learn more and sign up for updates at cityofvancouver.us/yclp.
