Take Root: Community Planting Day for Environmental Equity

Join the City of Vancouver and AmeriCorps members this MLK Day in honor of Dr. King’s legacy by promoting equal access to restored green space! This year, on January 15, 2024, we will be planting native trees and plants throughout the urban natural area, Sam Brown Park. Dr. Julian Ankney, the Campus Director of Native American Programs at WSU Vancouver, and Dr. Desiree Hellegers, the Director of the Collective for Social and Environmental Justice at WSU Vancouver, will open the day with a conversation about environmental and racial justice. There will be snacks and hot drinks available throughout the event.

Training, gloves, tools, water and snacks will be provided. This opportunity is family-friendly and great for teens – people of all ages and abilities are welcome. Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Sign up today!

Youth under 18 must bring a signed minor consent form. Youth under 13 must have an adult guardian present.
