Volunteer Planting at Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge - January 28th

Plant trees to enhance native habitat and improve the water quality of Gibbons Creek during the final year of this amazing project. Come and join in the fun of planting the old parking lot and returning it to a native forest! (don't worry, it was dug up by machines first )

Saturday, January 28th, 9AM - Noon

Pre-registration is required 

  • All ages and abilities are welcome. Let us know if you need accommodations to participate. 

  • Youth age 15 + may volunteer without an adult present.

Accessibility: The planting site is the dug up original parking lot. It will most likely be flat and muddy. 

We'll provide: Planting gloves, shovels, snacks, and warm beverages.

What to wear: Long sleeves, pants, sturdy shoes, work boots or rubber boots. Dress for the weather: extra layers are helpful.

What you should bring: Water bottle, raingear and layers.

Directions: A reminder email with directions and parking info will be sent 2-3 days before the event.

Schedule: 

9:00 AM - Check in, Introductions, project orientation

9:20 AM - Walk to site, safety talk and planting demo

9:45 AM - Plant trees and shrubs (taking personal breaks when needed)

12:00 PM - Wrap up and Head out. :)
