Hike and Learn: La Center Bottoms

Join Jessica Becker, author of the “Little feet hiking” book series, for a family experiential learning hike on the La Center Bottoms Trail. This hike along the Great Washington State Birding Trail Southwest Loop will take us beside wetlands and the East Fork Lewis River. On this hike, we will do a sit spot exercise, watch for birds, practice some nature journaling, and identify native plants.

This 2.2-mile hike is geared toward kids ages 5+ and their caregivers and is good for beginners. We will hike at a slow pace, stopping often to investigate what we find. We recommend bringing snacks and water, sun and rain protection (there isn’t much cover), and a desire to learn about and be respectful of nature. We may get muddy on this hike, so bring shoes that can survive squishy mud, as well as a change of clothes if you think you’ll need it.

If you have a nature journal and pencils, bring them along. We’ll have extra on hand though too! We also recommend something to sit on (garbage bags are one option).

This is not a drop-off event and registration is required. Please sign up one person per family and indicate how many will be participating in the notes.
