Dig Out Blackberry at Countryside Park

Happy Earth Month! Join City staff from Naturespaces in ongoing stewardship at Countryside Woods Park! We will be digging out the ‘crowns’ or root systems of recently mowed nonnative blackberry bushes and mulching to prevent regrowth. The event will take place, rain or shine, from 9AM-11:30AM Saturday April 29th.

Coffee, tea, water, snacks, gloves, and tools will be provided. Dress for the weather and wear closed toed shoes, long pants and a long-sleeved outer layer that can get damp or dirty and won’t tear or get snagged by blackberry thorns. If you have a wheelbarrow, tarp, garden shovel or hand pruners of your own, feel free to bring them.

Learn more about Rubus armeniacus (Armenian Blackberry, formally called Himalayan Blackberry) here: Washington State Noxious Weed Control Board

Youth under 18 must bring a signed minor consent form.

Advance registration is required.

If you have questions that are not answered in the FAQ's on the event webpage, please contact cityvolunteer@cityofvancouver.us or 360-487-8344.
